Frequently asked questions
Is Zyramic a manufacturer or a distributor?
Zyramic is the manufacturer of its membrane modules, cartridges and plates. Our Poughkeepsie, NY shop cuts and welds membrane and assembles modules for US projects.
What does "permanently wetted dry film" mean for Swing?
The Swing membrane ships, handles and stores dry, then wets in service. It goes into the tank straight from the crate. Handle cartridges dry: 11.3 kg per Swing-8 cartridge, 17.4 kg per Swing-9.
What pore sizes do you offer?
0.04 µm ultrafiltration is standard for Swing and Palisade. 0.4 µm microfiltration is available (optional on Palisade). Ceramic pore is set by element; 100 nm is common for silicon carbide.
What flux should I design for?
For Swing in municipal duty, our design guidance is 15 LMH for longest life, 20 LMH as a high average and 25 LMH for peak, derated about 20% to net for the 8-on / 2-off cycle. Industrial feeds are typically under 15 LMH. These are Zyramic design guidance values; your project proposal sets the design flux for your feed.
Are the membranes backwashed?
Swing and Palisade are not pressure-backwashed; they are cleaned in place (CIP) — Swing with reverse flow plus relaxation. Ceramic modules are backwashed. Scrub UF uses circulating rubber media and no backwash.
Which chemicals are used for cleaning?
Sodium hypochlorite for organics and biofilm, then citric acid for inorganic scale. Purge residual hypochlorite before the acid step. Typical doses are on the Swing page; confirm the site recipe with Zyramic.
Will Swing fit my existing hollow-fiber tank?
Often, one-for-one. Swing's footprint is close to hollow fiber. Plan for new permeate plumbing and guide rails. Send tank drawings and we will check.
How long does service take?
Swing is serviced one cartridge at a time; a module breakdown takes about two hours.
Are your modules BABA compliant?
Yes. BABA compliance is available for most Zyramic modules, including Swing, Palisade, Scrub UF and US-built ceramic skids. Origin letters are provided for your project.
Can I rent a module?
Yes, for US projects: storm flows, events, construction or a demonstration on your own water. Worldwide, every module is available for purchase.
Can you replace membranes in another brand's flat-sheet cassette?
Yes. We cut and weld replacement plates in different sizes. Send plate dimensions, port style and quantity.
What does Zyramic supply?
Membrane modules, cartridges, packaged UF units, replacement membranes and parts — engineered to drop into the process your engineer and contractor design.
How much submergence and spacing does Swing need?
More than 50 cm of liquid above the membrane top (more than 30 cm on small modules), and 40–60 cm between modules.
