Industrial reuse · Submerged UF · No backwash

UF for industrial water reuse.

Reuse process, wash and cooling water with flat-sheet UF that scrubs itself clean while it runs. Simple pretreatment, high recovery and no backwash, ahead of NF or RO where you need it.

Industrial Scrub UF installation
90% or betterrecovery, depending on feed and discharge
< 10 mg/Ltypical effluent TSS after UF
Nonebackwash pump, tank or cycle
9–12 GFDdesign flux (15–20 LMH); peak 15 GFD (25 LMH); may run higher on clean water

Typical values from reference installations, test data and design studies. Your proposal sets the design point and guaranteed values for your feed.

Process

Reuse trains built around Scrub UF.

Textile wash water

Wastewater collection tank→Scrub UF→Decolorizing or desalting, if required→Plant reuse

Municipal or industrial supply water

Final clarifier→Scrub UF→NF or RO→Reuse water
GoalExample train
Lower TSS and total phosphorusFinal clarifier → coagulant dose → Scrub UF
Lower TSS and CODFinal clarifier → Scrub UF → ozone or catalytic oxidation
Lower COD and total nitrogenFinal clarifier → denitrification filter → Scrub UF → advanced oxidation
Reuse as process or boiler makeupScrub UF → NF or RO, sized to the reuse spec
Color: UF removes particulate and colloidal color, but not all dissolved color. Where the color limit is tight, for example on dye-house or denim wash water, plan a polishing step after UF such as ozone, GAC or NF.

Why it fits

Built for variable industrial feeds.

FeatureWhat it doesWhy it matters
Online media scrubbingRemoves fouling while the unit runsFewer chemical cleans and less labor
Open flat sheetsNo fiber bundle to plug with fibers or sticky solidsTolerates higher-solids, variable feeds
Often no coagulantNo chemical sludge from a coagulation step in many designsLess solid waste; no added chloride, aluminum or iron
No backwashNo backwash pump, tank or valvesSimpler process and controls
Packaged unitsUnits share utilities and are serviced one at a timePhase capacity as reuse grows

Typical performance.

ParameterTypical result
Permeate turbidityTypically below 1 NTU; often below 0.1 NTU
Suspended solidsTypically below 5–10 mg/L
Recovery90% or better, depending on feed and how concentrate is discharged
COD and ammoniaPartial reduction; pair with oxidation or biology as needed
Feed suspended solidsReference tolerance up to about 200 mg/L; pilot recommended
Chemical cleanTypically every few weeks to 2 months on suitable feeds
Scrub UF compared with submerged hollow fiber in one reference comparison
One reference comparison. Results on other feeds will differ.

*Design permeate at 9–12 GFD (15–20 LMH), peak 15 GFD (25 LMH). On clean water, flux may run higher; we confirm that by pilot or reference data before we design to it. A 0.16 in (4.0 mm) sheet family is also available (Scrub-UF210 / UF280).

Permeate by model at design flux 9 to 12 GFD, with a higher clean-water guidance band
Design permeate at 9–12 GFD (15–20 LMH). The upper band is clean-water guidance and may run higher. It is not the design point.

Larger plants can use a multi-cell tank, with each cell taken offline for cleaning while the others keep producing. We confirm the configuration per project. Units are assembled in Poughkeepsie, NY. Questions

Common questions

Will UF remove color from textile wastewater?

Partly. UF removes particulate and colloidal color, but dissolved dye usually needs a polishing step after UF, such as ozone, GAC or NF. We size that step with you where color limits are tight.

Can Scrub UF feed an RO for reuse?

Yes. Scrub UF permeate typically has SDI below 4, which suits RO feed in many cases. See UF for RO pretreatment.

How much solids can it take?

Reference data show tolerance up to about 200 mg/L suspended solids. Sticky solids, oil or fibers change that, so we recommend a pilot on difficult feeds.

Is Scrub UF an MBR?

No. Scrub is a UF platform. For biological treatment with membranes, see Swing MBR or Palisade.

Send us your water data.

We will size Scrub UF for your flow and feed, or set up a Scrub-UF80 pilot.
